Gr8 Writers Listen to Gr8 Podcasts

Great writers listen to great podcasts. It's a rule I just invented, but it's true!

Although my neurodivergent brain very much hates audio-only podcasts, I’ve grown to LOVE audio-visual podcasts on YouTube. Who woulda thunk, huh?

Listening to the following podcasts has absolutely improved my writing skills and led me down some pretty deep rabbit holes in the best of ways.

Enjoy!

Podcasts Great Writers Should Tune Into

As a certified gr8 writer, I occasionally need some inspiration and advice from fellow creatives across the globe. And as a Gemini rising, I know there’s always something to learn, even if my biggest takeaway is that I’m adamantly and fundamentally against what just came out of the podcast guest’s mouth.

In no particular order, these are the top 5 podcasts that have been in my ear holes as of lately:

  1. Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett

The Gist: Steven meets with some of the world’s most influential people and some lesser-known professionals who have equally brilliant minds asking them about their greatest accomplishments and discoveries as well as why their lives turned out the way they did and why they’re the type of person they are today.

He wraps up each episode with a neat little ritual where the guest has to answer a random question left by a previous guest and then the current guest also has to leave a question for a future one.

    Favorite Episode:

-Mo Gawdat times one-thousand percent!! This man is on a mission to make a million people happy and has written so many phenomenal books about AI safety.

  2. The Mel Robbins Podcast

    The Gist:

Mel is a badass woman, bestselling author, and entrepreneur who talks about the things that most people don’t—like menopause! I want to be her when I grow up tbh.

    Favorite Episode:

Who doesn’t love a good crossover?? Steven Bartlett dropped by Mel’s show three months ago, and I got to see a whole new side of him.

  3. I Will Teach You to Be Rich with Ramit Sethi

    The Gist:

You might have seen Ramit’s show by the same name on Netflix. At least, that’s how I found out about this lovely human. Ramit helps people face their biggest fears regarding their finances and facilitates the hard questions among couples. Listen, ya girl went to counseling school, and he nails reflective listening.

He also consistently fights trolls on Twitter, so 10/10 would recommend following.

    Favorite Episode:

Can I pick all of them? (I can, this is my blog.) Money stories and money psychology is SO fascinating to watch unfold in real-time as Ramit hops on a Zoom call with couples and unravels generational patterns they never noticed before even decades into a marriage.

  4. The Tim Ferriss Show

    The Gist:

Tim is—dare I say—a marketing God, as are most of his guests. This is a podcast that makes you want to take notes.

    Favorite Episode:

Anything with Naval Ravikant is an absolute yes from me. The Almanack of Naval Ravikant is still one of the best books I’ve read to this day.

  5. Do We Know Them? with Jessi & Lily

    The Gist:

One of these is not like the others…

Alright, so if you’re looking for earth-shattering business advice, you’re probably not going to get it here (sorry girlies). But what you will get instead is 1000x better. This is my favorite podcast to throw on when I want to relax and learn about the latest tea across the internet and what’s going on with pop culture.

    Favorite Episodes:

I’m going to cheat and say all of them again, sorry. I’ve been a fan of Jessi’s for over a decade and the dynamics on the show remind me of my closest friendships. The girlies are also hard at work fighting for copyright laws and fair use, which affects all creators!
